Hello! Today is a new master class oil painting on canvas. Today we paint a portrait from a photograph.
What are the goals I set myself in this master class oil paintin ?
1. I want to learn how to paint portraits and qualitatively similar. Will paint a portrait in oils on canvas.
2 . I want to learn to paint portraits quickly. I used to throw out the maximum energy to the canvas in a single session. Second, third and other sessions letters portrait for me flour rather than pleasure and flight of the soul. Therefore, this goal was born — a portrait for 1 — 2 sessions. And quality portrait.
I paint portraits from life not I download and print out your favorite character types — from them and paint portraits, but rather learning to paint them.
The essence of this master class oil painting, in which we draw the portrait from a photograph .
We will not make a preliminary pencil drawing as many years teachers teach. We do not have time for this (I have at least). We will write a portrait of technology » in the rush for themselves.» This is an interesting technology paint the portrait, I like it. And I want to share this cool technique quick portrait oil painting with you.
Before paint a portrait I want to make an important point : our untrained eye ( eye novice and inexperienced artist ) sees unfortunately very little of what bears the portrait photo. More precisely, we look, but we do not see. I judge for yourself : a notice for that miss so many details on portrait photography (transition of light and shadow, the proportions depicted portrait, head tilt, displacement of the eye and much more ). But this is all clearly visible in the photograph which I paint portrait. To what I told you? I ask you before drawing portrait please carefully and slowly look at the picture that you paint. The more detail you can see, the better and more beautiful you paint a portrait!
I said a lot higher and it’s time to go directly to the master class portrait painting from photo.
So, take a broad brush and a jar with a tee ( thinner, linseed oil and a little polish ). Put a layer of the tee to the canvas. I advise you to add more linseed oil so as not to dry out very quickly tee on canvas.
Begin to paint a portrait (like any other oil painting) with what we have is at the background. Specifically, in our case, we have a dark background. That’s it we begin to put on canvas. Dark do two colors: red and blue (I recommend to add to them a little dark brown for more black). Their mix, dilute the tee and put on white canvas. In some places, adding to the solution a little yellow (it gives us a heterogeneous deep background). Here and add to favor blue.
I advise you to pay attention to how I hold the brush ( see photo above). Also, this is important is how you apply the paint to the canvas. Look at the photo above — all strokes are roughly in the same direction, about the same rhythm.
I am writing to slack on the stretcher canvas — no difference in principle — but I feel so comfortable and dry store canvases. Not occupy much space.
So, we have covered the entire surface of our dark canvas. We clearly visible brush strokes — and it’s not very good in this case. They will distract our gaze from the foreground. We have a life-saving tool — a palette knife. My favorite palette knife!
The next stage of the master class: we need to outline our future portrait on canvas. And here we go is not the way you are all — we do not adumbrate the face, neck and torso.
Now take the new paint and do batch. Take the yellow , red and a little more brown paint . Mix these colors on the palette and palette knife turns yellowish- amber color. And begin to apply it to our silhouette.
The next stage of writing a portrait picture — we need to find the approximate facial features. That is, the line of the lips, jaw line, around the tip of the nose, depression eyeballs.
To do this, mix the following oil paints on a palette knife palette : brown, red and yellow. We should get a brown- amber color mixing. To us it was easier to navigate where the facial features are in the portrait — we put a finger shadow components of the future portrait. Look at the photo and drag around shady spots. I outlined at the pictures below red circle is the place.
We continue to refine the contour and features a portrait of the future. To do this, look at the picture, we take from the palette you want us to paint your finger ( from ready- mixes ).
After a brief clarification we need to put a finger pupils so that » they looked at us», that is to put them naturally. To use this batch of red and blue oil paint.
Then we look at the umbra and penumbra photos and transfer them around the canvas. We are moving from dark to light. At this stage we have not yet imposed light areas, and while working with shadow.
Then I think to finish our new master class oil painting : How to paint a portrait from a photograph, as all our subsequent actions are repeated.
I highly recommend to see the video recording of this master class oil painting. Here ‘s something I forgot to say something omitted as unnecessar , but in the video you can see everything and all stages of drawing a portrait from a photograph I blurt.
